The Sussex Downsman Hike is an event held annually on the first Saturday in October which runs right through our District. The next event is scheduled for 1st October 2022.

The Hike is organised principally for the Scout and Guide Associations of East and West Sussex, with an open invitation to Scout and Guide Groups throughout Great Britain.

There are different classes that cater for a wide variety of hiking experience and ability.

Please see their request for help:
Many thanks to all of you who have volunteered to help out so far at this year's Downsman hike on Saturday 1st October. To date we have a fair proportion of the checkpoints staffed but we are still in need of volunteers to staff the remaining checkpoints and road crossings along the route. We also have other tasks that we would appreciate some help with, so even if you can only commit a couple or so spare hours and are able to help out, we would love to hear from you.

If you have not yet responded and are able to help us, could you please reply to downsmanstaff@westsussexscouts.org.uk letting us know if you are available to help out on a checkpoint and whether you have a preference as to which one, or whether you have a couple of hours to spare to help out with other tasks to keep the Downsman hike running smoothly on the day.

For more information about the hike itself and a definition of the different classes for participating teams please see the Downsman Hike website. Registration for 2022 is now open via the Downsman website
