Petworth Park Camp 2018

Petworth Park Camp is a joint event between Petworth & Pulborough Scouts and Petworth Division Guides. It takes place on the first May Bank Holiday weekend every year. The camp started in 1979 has has only missed one year in 2001 due to the Foot & Mouth epidemic. The event will celebrate 40 years in 2019.

The camp setup starts on Friday morning with unit leaders arriving to setup their mess tents in the afternoon. The young people join us on Saturday morning to put up their tents and arrange their camping areas before the opening ceremony and lunch. The afternoon is mix of group activities with this year having an obstacle course, a treasure hunt to tie in with this years Pirates theme, an inflatable featuring a rotating bar to jump and duck or get knocked off and flag making to decorate the subcamps. Saturday evening was a mix of subcamp activities and a movie; Muppets Treasure Island.

Sunday is the big activity day with 4 zones of activities, the young people can do any activity in the zone as many times as they like, a coloured wristband tells them which zone to be in. Activities this year included archery, rifle shooting, crossbows, aerial runway, knots & woggles, mountain boards, mountain bikes, fire lighting, caving, slacklines, make and do, sweet making, abseiling, climbing, geocaching and team problem solving.

Monday is pack up day when everyone hopes for dry weather, this year was superb with 4 days of wall to wall sunshine - not a wet tent in sight! At the closing ceremony, Robert Sawyer, the Scouts County Commissioner was on hand to present Ann Pike, SAS Manager & ADC Inclusion with her Award for Merit and justly deserved.

Petworth Park Camp couldn’t go ahead without all the hard work and support of the organising team, unit leaders and helpers, the young people, the National Trust and in particular the Scout Active Support, the Trefoil Guild, all of our activity helpers and instructors and the manpower of the Explorer section. Thank you to all of you.

Petworth Park Camp 2019 is 3rd - 6th May 2019 (TBC)
