On 25 January I visited 1st Ashington's refurbished Scout Hut. William Brumwell Group Scout Leader was there to welcome members of the village and the  surrounding area. Marcus Barnes and David Newland were on hand to demonstrate their air riffle shooting range, while James Newland promoted the European  Jamboree he is to attend in July. I could not help purchasing some sweets James was selling to raise funds for the trip.

The hut has had the floor sanded and polished, the toilets and kitchen have been upgraded and a new office area created for the Leaders to use. There is an impressive newly tarmacked area to the side of the hall which has been enclosed with Sussex fencing looking out over the village green. New gas heating has been installed and roof has been repaired with wheal chair ramp and access to the entrance.

Ashington Scout Group can now continue to prepare young people with skills for life in a very impressive premises. To find out more about Scouting in Ashington please visit the group page.
